About Us

The Trust—established in 1998 in response to the critical need of young people for shelter, access to primary health services and education—is registered with the Master of the High Court as a “children’s charity trust”.  The residential component of our operations is registered as a children’s home by the Gauteng Department of Social Development, whilst the national Department of Social Development registered us as a non-profit organization (NPO).  As a public benefit organization (PBO) the Bethany House Trust enjoys section 18A Tax exempt status.  The full value of your donation to Bethany House—monetary or in kind—can be claimed from SARS as “donations tax”.

The Trust focuses on three areas of service delivery to children and youth, viz.:

· Welfare and Health

· Education

· Youth & Sport Development

Bethany House is also engaged in lobbying and policy formulation issues.  Gert J Jonker, the CEO, serves on a number of regional, provincial and national welfare structures where issues of concern for the entire welfare sector are addressed.  The positive impact of the work done through these structures impacts on thousands of beneficiaries.
